Black Ants and Buddhists
So while reading the article, Black Ants and Buddhists, all I could think was, what will I do when this happens in my classroom? I enjoyed reading this article because it shows the difference cultures and opinions us teachers will face in the future. I like the way the teacher handled it and I am actually surprised at how the students thought of their classmates' opinions once started in discussion. I am also surprised that students took personal responsibility outside of the classroom. For example, after the discussion Gabrielle came home and cleaned her room and sorted the laundry. The black ant situation had such an impact on these students that they could not wait to tell other people about it. I am amazed at how well they have accepted diversity in their classroom.

Social Studies
Hello! My name is Ashley Perkins and I created this blog last year. I am an elementary education major at East Tennessee State University. This year is my senior year and I am graduating in May of 2011! I originally created this blog for a science class, but I am now using it for a social studies class. I have also used this blog as part of a educational technology class. I will be posting various social studies resources over the next few months. Hope this helps!
